I have never slept better February 15, 2010 K. Brown (Michigan, USA) I received the mattress in the early afternoon, dragged it upstairs and unrolled in onto my box spring. By bedtime, it had puffed up to its full dimensions, and the smell, which was mild to begin with, was almost gone.
I have only slept on innerspring mattresses, so it took some getting used to. The mattress molds around your body, so rolling over is a little different. I love, love, love this mattress. I have arthritic knees, and I used to wake up throughout the night because one of my knees was in a painful position. No more. I wake up in the same position I was in at bed time. I am a side sleeper, and the mattress is perfect for me.
Feels great! February 4, 2010 K. Huffstutler (Austin Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We have had this mattress for about a week now and although the smell is faint when we first get into bed, it is still there. This is the second memory foam Mattress we have purchased and the first had the same smell when we opened it. Eventually it went away so I hope the same will be true of this new one. This mattress is 12 inches and our last was only 7 and what a difference a few inches make! This matress feels more solid than the first one and more like a higher quality mattress too. For the price, this is as close as it gets to the expensive name brand version.
As for the shipping, this is the only area I would expect more from the company. Instead of coming in a wheeled box like our first one (making it pretty easy to get home and unpack) this one came rolled up and wrapped in heavy plastic. It was harder to maneuver and Fed-ex will only put it right inside the door.
Unbelievable odor January 19, 2010 M. Dvis 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Mattress is still sitting in a room with a window fan exhausting the odor. Walking in the room is like
sticking your face into a pail of paint. It is horrid. They'll let you return it for any reason, but
there is no way this thing can be wrapped for shipping - its too large and weighs 90 pounds, you'd need to
have a vacuum sealer like the manufacturer. I'm worried that this will be a 600 dollar loss. Something
this big will come from a furniture store next time. This was a dreadful purchase
Yet another 5-star review December 16, 2009 Charles A. Miller (Baltimore, Maryland U.S.A.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This review basically echoes those that have gone before. I can only restate what others have said. So why write the review at all? Because I was guided by the consistency of those reviews and want to strengthen the overall consensus.
PROS:
- This bed is considerably cheaper than brand names, and as far as I can tell from the first few weeks of owning it, it is basically the same/better than the higher priced ones. Therefore, the lower price should be a paramount consideration.
- This bed is very comfortable. I have owned memory foam mattresses before, and surprisingly, this is every bit as good for a much lower price. It is firm, but does everything a memory foam mattress should do.
- Despite the 90 pound weight, it arrives compressed and rolled up, making it far easier to manipulate than if it were already opened and expanded.
CONS:
- As others have said, there is an aroma upon unwrapping it. That said, it dissipated within a day and was forgotten by Day 2. Others have been very critical of this point, which indicates that [a] their sense of smell is different from mine, or more likely [b] these beds come from different lots and some have that aroma more than others. Overall, I hardly consider this to a problem since it will be gone in matter of hours (or perhaps a couple of days).
- 20-year guarantee... well, kind of, sort of... it's 100% for the first few years, and drops as time goes on. But what good is this guarantee at all? Is it practical to send it back, especially after it has decompressed? Packaging and shipping would probably equal the refunded amount.
SUMMARY:
The PROs far outweigh the CONs. I don't expect to get a full 20 years out of it, but at this price, it would be just as cost-effective to buy more than one over that time frame. Or who knows? Perhaps it will last as long as the brand names. Since we spend a full third of our lives in bed and this bed is indeed very comfortable, there is no reason not to buy this one, especially if money is an issue. Purchasing brand names from brand name stores only means you are paying for the storefront lease and the salesperson's commission.
Fantastic price, good quality, but a little firm December 7, 2009 Darrin Adams (San Jose, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This bed is fun. It comes rolled up only 12" thick. You get to watch it grow in front of your eyes. My kids actually brought over a glass of water to see if it wouldn't spill while they bounced on it--until mom yelled at them.
It is comfortable, warm, and priced well. Really you can't beat the price. There is a smell at first but it goes away in a 4-6 days, even if you have the sheets on.
So here are my negatives and these are completely personal.
1) I would prefer a softer bed. The named brand beds, Temperpedic, seem to cost more as they get softer. So the $4,000 bed is actually the softest. This was the case in the show room we went to. This bed's softness seems to be between the the cheapest and second cheapest Temperpedic. ($1600-2200). I wish there was an actual rating for softness. It would make bed shopping a whole lot easier. There is a rating called ILD Rating (Indentation Load Deflection) in which the higher the number the firmer the mattress; however I could not find a rating for this mattress.
2) It is hard to roll over. The first two weeks were quite difficult as it takes a lot of effort to turn. It really sucks you in. I woke up a lot just turning over. About a month has gone by and I'm used to it.
3) It is warm, really warm. If you live in a warm area, like San Jose California I would be concerned about the summers. We don't use the heater much, maybe one week out of the year, and there have been several winter nights when I just need a sheet. If you are in a cold area, I don't see how you could live without one of these beds.
Would I buy a memory foam again? Absolutely. They are really neat. I would just probably get a softer one, but I won't pay $4,000 for it. If you like medium firm beds, you won't go wrong with this one.
